Chapter 5b: "Young Love, Our Love: We Share With Deep Emotion"

Luke felt so outrageously happy over the next few days that he couldn't sit still.Even though the snow continued to fall, he took to wandering around town to burn off his nervous energy. One afternoon as he was passing a local park, he saw two familiar faces.

Jethro, looking happy and flushed, was building a snowman with ....wait a minute. Luke Hans almost didn't recognise him out of his maid's uniform, but it was Sammie.

They looked so happy together. Jethro chased Sammie with a snowball and Sammie fell flat on his back in the deeper snow and made a snow angel. Luke was about to bowl on up and ask them why they hadn't invited him on their day out, but he held back as suddenly....

He saw Sammie's expression and noticed how close they were standing. He recognised that body language! There was no mistaking, Jethro and Sammie were in LOVE!

Luke's mouth hung open in surprise and he caught a few snowflakes on his tongue as he watched them gazing into each other's eyes. Jethro and Sammie 4eVa.

Suddenly all the loose and confusing pieces that had been banging around in Luke's mind about Jethro fell abruptly into place. And while Luke Hans thought it was a bit odd that Jethro was dating their maid, he saw how happy he looked and that was enough for him.

Later that evening while they were watching TV, Lesley asked Luke, with a knowing smile, how it was going with Marjorie. Luke could not hide his foolish grin when he told her, "It's great Mum. Fantastic. She is an awesome wonderful girl and we get along so SO well....Would you say Marjorie looks ethereal Mum? Am I wrong?"

Jethro pretending not to listen, snorted derisively into his book.

"I'm so pleased for you Luke Hans! Marjorie does seem lovely, you should invite her over one day." suggested Lesley ignoring Jethro's sniggering. She was genuinely pleased that her boys had discovered romance at last.

Luke wondered what Marjorie would make of his house....and furniture, when Lesley continued "You too Jethro! I know you've been seeing someone. Why does it have to be such a secret? If you're dating, that's great, invite them over. I'd love to meet them whoever it is."

Jethro remained silent.

Luke Hans cut his mother a sharp side eye, thinking - well this is awkward. She doesn't know! And more to the point how will she react when she finds out? Luke thought he'd better talk to Jethro.

Luke caught Jethro coming out of the bathroom as they were getting ready for bed.

"Umm hey, errrr have you got a second?" He felt very apprehensive, but someone had to get this subject out in the open before Lesley heard it from a stranger.
"Yeah."
"Oh you been waxing your entire body again bro?"
"Errr yeah...don't worry I cleaned up in there."
"That's okay - look...Jethro...."
"What is it?" Jethro was getting a bit suspicious. Luke looked so serious. Luke decided just to rip that bandaid right off.
"Listen, I saw you the other day."
"What?"
"In the park, with.... someone."
"Who?"
"Sammie"
"Oh yeah." Jethro blushed deeply. But Luke ploughed right on, there was no easy way to say it.
"Look bro, I know."
Silence.
"I know you're gay. I know you have a boyfriend."
"pffffffftt"
"And I know it's Sammie. It's cool okay. Well not the Sammie part - that's just weird. But you have to tell Mum, because she will find out, sooner rather than later."

"Hey we're brothers right? Don't we have each others back? Huh?" Luke smiled reassuringly.
Jethro was actually relieved and burst out laughing.
"I guess you're right. What's the worst that Mum could do?" said Jethro. They both agreed that Lesley really liked Sammie anyway, they had become good friends. So they formulated a plan to do it the next day.

But when the next day came and they were nervously waiting for Lesley to get back from her latest wrangling trip, both Luke and Jethro were crapping themsleves - to put it mildly. How would their Mum take the news?

Up Next - How will Lesley react to the news? What will she do? Can Sammie convince her his intentions are good? Does he even have any intentions? Will Marjorie eat off plates that aren't English bone china? Will she run next door if she needs to use the bathroom?
